Seeking God

Dec 9, 2024    Derek Hogg

Due to Israel’s sin and not following the Lord’s commandments they were brought into captivity by the Babylonians. God told Israel that they would be under their rule, away from the land He promised them, for seventy years, no more and no less. But God promised Israel that He would restore them to the promised land of in the kingdom of Judah and out from under the rule of the Babylonians. Therefore, Judah was going to have to wait for God to restore them in His timing.

Whereas Israel was once seeking their own desires, they would now have to learn through the seventy years of captivity to trust God in His timing and His plans to restore them. We too, at various times in our life, will have to wait for God’s timing. And in our times of waiting, our enemy tempts us to seek what we want in our own timing. We need to seek God’s timing because He has a plan in mind of a bigger picture that we cannot see.

But through trusting God’s timing, we are going to find that He will grow us in our faith and our walk with Him as we are waiting on Him. As we grow in our faith, we are going to see the importance of trusting God’s timing.

Finally, remember the importance of seeking God and trusting in His timing. In a time of waiting on God, we are to be seeking Him, His will, and His plans through prayer and His word. This is what Daniel did while he was waiting for Israel to be restored to their promised land in Daniel 1:8-16 and Daniel 6:1-10 (I encourage you to read these passages this week.)

So when we are in a time of waiting, remain diligent to seek God in His word and in prayer, and trust in His timing, not our own.
