The promises that God gave the exiles in Babylon in Jeremiah 29 are timeless in their impact on the lives of all God's people through the centuries. Verses like Jeremiah 29:11 and 13 are verses that the faithful have held onto for hope and encouragement. But in order to grasp the depth of those promises, we must look at the context of Jeremiah's letter, and the the commands of obedience God gave his people even in the midst of exile and ruin. So by understanding how God's people got into that predicament, and what they were called to do in the middle, we can better understand the promise that God gives us all when we seek Him with all our heart.
