The Law

There is an amazing evangelist by the name of Ray Comfort who has a multitude of YouTube videos where he does street-evangelism in public areas. Ray opens his conversation with simple questions, with seemingly simple answers. He begins by asking people if they feel like they’re good people. Ray then drops a “bomb” by asking them, “If you died today, do you know what’s going to happen to you?” This positions him to follow with questions like “Have you ever told a lie?”, “Have you ever stolen something, no matter how small?”, and “Have you ever looked at anyone with lust?”

Mr. Comfort masterfully uses these questions to point out that this is what’s referred to as the Moral Law, and on judgment day, God will judge people according to that Law.

All sin separates us from God, leading us to the purpose for the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross. So when God looks at us who have put our faith in Jesus, He doesn’t see our sin. He sees us as righteous because we are covered in the blood of Jesus!

Hallelujah!

Its important to realize that while sanctification is a natural part of following Christ that none of us, apart from him, is worthy to stand before his throne. As Paul writes to the church in Rome, “As it is written: There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Romans 3:10)

Remember the words of Solomon in Proverbs 6:23: “For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.” The law is a light to show us where we fall short, to guide us unto righteousness to glorify the Holy God we serve. But not to cause shame, but instill gratitude within us all!

Praise God that we are judged not by what we have done but by what was done for us. Victoriously, we stand in grace. Forgiven. Redeemed. And so very loved!
