The Promise, Pt. 3

In Isaiah 9:6-7, God made a promise to Israel, that a child would be born. But this would not be any ordinary child. This child is promised to be a Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace – a Savior for the world. And it was promised by God that this child would bring a kingdom that is vast, will prosper and will be for eternity. And Christians believe that the child that is promised to be born is Jesus Christ, who is Mighty God in human flesh. And though the promised Savior was given to Israel, this promise is also for all of humanity.

On the night that Jesus was born, an angel appeared to shepherds, saying, “I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the city of David a Savior is born for you, who is the Messiah, the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11. The angel says that Jesus, who is the savior, was born for all people, and that salvation is for all people. If you have put your faith and trust in Jesus, you have a great reason to celebrate Christmas!

As believers, we celebrate and remember God’s love, grace and mercy by sending His Son to be born as human flesh to die thirty-three later for our sins in order to fulfill God’s promise of salvation. Christmas is also a great time of year to share this good news of great joy with those who we know who have not put their faith and trust in Jesus.

Throughout the Christmas season there are so many good opportunities to share the gospel with friends and family. It is important to remember that we don’t just celebrate Christmas because of our salvation as believers, but because Jesus came to save those who are still lost and living a lifestyle of sin. So, this Christmas season, let’s not just remember why we celebrate Christmas but also share with others why we need Christmas.
