The Savior, Pt. 2
Jesus said in John 10:10, “A thief only comes to steal and kill and destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it abundantly.” We saw back in “The Fall”, through our devotionals and sermons, that Satan came to Eve to steal, kill, and destroy. But Jesus gives life and gives it abundantly. But how does Jesus give life and give it abundantly?
John 3:16 say “God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” Eternal life is the abundant life that Jesus promised. Paul knew that knowing Christ and having eternal life in Christ was an abundant life that is more valuable than status or possessions (Philippians 3:7-11). The abundant life is not in our social status, or how much money we have. The abundant life is not in our possessions. Paul says those are dung compared to knowing Christ and having eternal life.
Jesus did not go around preaching that he wants you to have the best life, he preached the gospel that gives eternal life. That is why he came in the likeness of humanity, and this is why we need Christmas. It was only through Jesus Christ that we have eternal life. This Christmas, let’s remember the exhortations that Jesus preached of eternal life and the Kingdom of Heaven. Even though we get gifts from loved ones, let’s remember that Jesus is enough for us. No other things in this world can give us what Jesus does - salvation that has made us children of God, and eternal life.
