The Hope, Pt. 4
As we wait for Christ’s return, we are called to more than just going to church and reading our Bibles. We are also called to be good stewards of what God has given us. He has given each of us spiritual gifts and resources to be used for His will and glory.
Jesus teaches about his in his “Parable of the Talents” in Matthew 25:14-30. In this parable, he tells of a master that was going away and gave one of his servants five talents, another he gave two, and the other he gave one. The one with five went to work and earned five more; the one with two earned two more, but the servant with one buried his talent. After a long, while the master came back to see how well his servants stewarded their gifts. The ones who had stewarded well, he praised, while the one who did nothing, the master punished.
While we are waiting for Christ to return, we are to be good stewards of what God has given us to invest in His kingdom. He has given each of us a spiritual gift that we are to use to invest and grow His kingdom. But God has not just given us spiritual gifs to steward well. He has given us finances that need to be stewarded well and invested in His kingdom. He has given us families to steward well and that grow the kingdom when people see Christ in our families. He has given us our work place, not just to make money but also as a mission field. Likewise, He has given us as our friends and our community.
As we wait for Christ’s return, let’s ask ourselves – “Am I being a good steward of what God has given me?” Or even better…”How can I be a good steward of what God has given me?”
God calls us to be faithful in what He has given us. Peter says in 1 Peter 4:10, “Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied graces of God.” Christmas reminds us that its more than just receiving gifts, but using the gifts God has given us to grow His kingdom, bless others in the process, and glorify God with all that we’ve been given!
Happy New Year!
