The Gospel of Mark, Pt. 31

As we open up Mark Ch. 7, we come to another instance of Jesus' rebuke of the prevalent teachings of the religious leaders of his day. It was customary for human traditions to be elevated to the level of God's word in Holy Scripture, creating unbearable legalistic burdens on God's people. This is followed by Jesus' teaching that it isn't the external things of this world that make man sinful and unclean before the Lord, but rather the sinful condition of the human heart. Therefore, a clean and purified heart through faith in Jesus, resulting in loving obedience to his word, is what truly makes us clean.
